Kh.Nyambaatar, the former governor of the capital and mayor of Ulaanbaatar, has been charged on suspicion of abuse of power. He said he will announce next week when he will return to Mongolia. According to UBN.mn, he addressed the public through his social media page on October 18 and said: “I will come. Next week I will state clearly when I will go to Mongolia.”

Kh.Nyambaatar said he is being falsely charged. “I did not run away with the 500 billion of the Tuul expressway,” he said, and “I gave everything I had to the Mongolian state.” He also urged the government to focus on its work: “Price increases have become unmanageable. People are searching for petrol, queuing…” He also accused other officials over the Numrug nature reserve fire and some government decisions. These are his own one-sided claims, which could not be independently verified, so they are not detailed here.

Anti-Corruption Agency commissioner B.Bilegt told iSee.mn on October 9 that Kh.Nyambaatar was charged on September 25, 2026 under Article 22.1.3 of the Criminal Code, which covers abuse of power. Under an order of the Prosecutor General, a joint working group of the General Intelligence Agency, the Anti-Corruption Agency and the National Police Agency was set up, and it is reviewing all projects carried out by the capital city.

On October 5, iSee.mn cited reports that Kh.Nyambaatar is living in Canada and said he could be sought through Interpol. On October 15, civic activist G.Uyanga stood at the entrance of the Anti-Corruption Agency and demanded that he be investigated. No court has found Kh.Nyambaatar guilty.
