About 27,500 sign petition to scrap Mongolia’s household garage property tax
A petition by lawyer O. Batkhuu to exempt one family garage from real-estate tax has drawn about 27,500 signatures, Unuudur.mn reports; supporters can sign on e-zasag.mn.

Lawyer O. Batkhuu has launched an online petition to amend the Real Estate Tax Law so that one household garage or parking space used for family needs is exempt from property tax. According to Unuudur.mn, about 27,500 people had signed as of yesterday. Supporters can add their names on e-zasag.mn.
What the petition asks for
The initiator notes that in Ulaanbaatar a person with two apartments typically pays no real-estate tax, while someone with a single garage does. A garage, he argues, is not a profit-making asset but infrastructure for storing a car in a harsh climate, and having one can reduce street parking that blocks entrances, sidewalks and public space.
The proposal would add an exemption for “one auto garage or parking space owned by a citizen and used for their own or their family’s needs.” The e-zasag.mn listing targets 100,000 supporters.
