Numrug protected area fire started by burning Mobicom executives’ vehicle
A vehicle carrying Mobicom executives caught fire in Numrug Strictly Protected Area, sparking a wildfire; police will check whether the group hunted.

A wildfire in Numrug Strictly Protected Area in Dornod province's Khalkhgol soum, sparked when a vehicle carrying Mobicom Corporation executives caught fire, has become a focus of public attention.
How the fire started
According to time.mn, emergency services received a report of a wildfire at Bichigtiin-Undruud in Tsogt-Sumber bag at 11:55 a.m. on October 8. A group including Mobicom CEO Yasuhiro Ochi, a Japanese national, deputy director for business B. Munkhzorig and Mobicom Networks director B. Otgonchimeg was travelling in several vehicles when one of them, a Nissan Patrol, caught fire and ignited dry grass. Authorities are working to establish the cause.
Firefighting and damage
Border troops, the protected area's administration and emergency workers from several provinces fought the blaze, which was contained after cloud seeding brought rain (xpost.mn, time.mn). Dornod governor and head of the provincial emergency commission Sh. Yol said 80 percent of the protected area had burned and asked who had authorised entry into the strictly protected area, Unuudur reported.
Border permits and hunting check
The General Authority for Border Protection said it had issued border-zone permits for 13 people in five vehicles, including Mobicom executives and local residents (UBN). Its press office told xpost.mn that police and environmental police experts would determine whether the group had hunted, and that the cause of the fire was being investigated. It said no border service personnel were in the vehicle that burned.
Mobicom's response
In a statement, Mobicom said it has expanded telecom coverage in remote border areas since 2018, and that in 2026 it connected the Khalkhgol border detachment's outposts to 4G and brought fibre to the Sumber border port. It said the vehicle caught fire while staff were handing over this work and checking the network, calling the resulting wildfire a "regrettable incident", and said it had obtained permits and travelled with local and border officials (mpress.mn, iSee.mn).
