Ulaanbaatar and BYD aim to start Sky Shuttle construction in March 2027
Ulaanbaatar Mayor B. Purevdagva met BYD Group’s Sky Shuttle team; the two sides preliminarily agreed to finish the feasibility study in December and begin construction next March.

Capital City Governor and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar B. Purevdagva on October 15 met a delegation led by Nicola Jan, director of BYD Group’s Sky Shuttle project. It was the third meeting between the two sides.
Feasibility study in December, construction next March
At the meeting, the two sides preliminarily agreed to complete the Sky Shuttle feasibility study by December this year, in line with the guidance from the COP17 conference, and to begin construction next March (amlalt.mn, 24tsag.mn, mpress.mn).
“We are working with the firm intention of making BYD Group’s Sky Shuttle a top priority and starting its implementation in 2027,” Purevdagva said. He added that working groups had been set up by the governor’s order to cover three main areas of cooperation with BYD (amlalt.mn).
Memorandum signed during COP17
The capital signed a memorandum of understanding with BYD during the COP17 conference. Under it, the two sides agreed to work together in three areas: building a network of “Green Station” fast-charging points for electric vehicles in Ulaanbaatar, introducing battery energy storage systems (BESS), and launching the battery-powered Sky Shuttle high-capacity public transport system (24tsag.mn, mnb.mn).
According to public broadcaster MNB, BYD has already deployed its Sky Shuttle vehicles, which use its Blade Battery technology, in 10 Chinese cities and in São Paulo, Brazil. City officials see the project as a way to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion and to modernise public transport.
