Amazon in talks to buy AI startup Decart for around $7 billion, WSJ reports
Amazon is negotiating to acquire Decart, maker of real-time video-editing and robotics-simulation AI models, in a deal that could be valued at about $7 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported. Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May.

Amazon is in talks to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart in a deal that could be valued at around $7 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, October 11, citing people familiar with the matter. Reuters, which carried the report, said it could not immediately verify it, and neither Amazon nor Decart responded to requests for comment.
Where the talks stand
According to the Journal, a deal could come together soon if negotiations do not fall apart or another suitor does not emerge. Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May, according to PitchBook data cited in the report, meaning the discussed price would be close to double that mark.
What Decart builds
- Lucy, a model that can edit live video in real time.
- Oasis, a model that generates simulated environments to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems.
The company was founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, according to Bloomberg. Decart raised $300 million in May in a round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.
Anthropic walked away earlier
Anthropic, the maker of the Claude chatbot, explored buying Decart in August for potentially about $6 billion and carried out due diligence, but decided last month not to pursue the acquisition, Bloomberg News previously reported.
Why it matters
A deal would give Amazon a team and technology focused on real-time video generation and on the simulation tools used to train "physical AI" such as robots and self-driving vehicles. No terms have been officially announced.
