Astana-2026: Tulga wins bronze at the World Wrestling Championships

Mongolia's Honoured Athlete Tömör-Ochiryn Tulga has won bronze in the men's 70 kg freestyle at the Astana-2026 World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan.

In today's bronze-medal match he beat Moldova's Vasile Diacon 9-0 (Zogii.mn). The day before, Tulga beat Iran's Sina Khalili 6-1 in the quarterfinals, then lost his semifinal 3-2 to Russia's European champion Ibragim Ibragimov, which sent him to the bronze match (United World Wrestling, Zogii.mn). Ibragimov took gold at the weight, Kyrgyzstan's Ernazar Akmataliev took silver, and Zain Retherford of the United States won the other bronze.

This is Tulga's third world championship medal. He won bronze at 65 kg in Oslo in 2021 and silver at 70 kg in Zagreb in 2025 (Ergelt.mn, Tovch.mn).

Also for Mongolia, O. Süldkhüü drew 3-3 with Levi Haines (USA) in the 79 kg semifinal and lost on the last point. He will wrestle Russia's Ismail Khaniev for bronze tomorrow at 21:00 Ulaanbaatar time (UBN.mn).
