Nyambaatar demands President Khurelsukh resign, says he will return when the next president is elected

Former Ulaanbaatar mayor Kh. Nyambaatar used a livestream on his social media page today (October 31, 2026) to demand that President U. Khurelsukh submit his resignation. Nyambaatar has been charged in a corruption case and is in Canada. He also changed what he had said earlier about when he would return to Mongolia, taking a harder line.

"I will return the day the next president is elected"

According to UBN.mn, Nyambaatar said: "Mr. President, submit your resignation now. I will not follow those who have become political prisoners into the hands of a cruel regime. I will return to my homeland the day the next president is elected." He accused the President of sending many people to prison during his ten years at the top of the state.

In last week's livestream he said he would return once the President explained the sources of his assets (UBN.mn). Today he tied his return to a change of president instead.

What he called a statue model

DNN.mn and UBN.mn reported that during the livestream Nyambaatar showed what he described as a model of a statue of President Khurelsukh. Whether such a statue has actually been commissioned could not be independently verified. He also repeated earlier, unproven allegations about the President's assets.

Background

egov.mn reported on October 24 that a request had been sent to put Nyambaatar on an Interpol search. On October 27 the Office of the President accused him of spreading slander. As of 18:30 the Office had not responded publicly to today's demand.
