US’ top rival modernizes its most advanced stealth fighter jet, can operate in jamming environments

A Russian company has delivered the country’s most advanced stealth fighter jet to its military. The new batch of Su-57 multi-role fighter jets have been modernized based on extensive experience from its use in combat operations, according to reports.

Developed by Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), the fighter jet is capable of engaging with air, ground, and sea targets.

New fighter jets underwent a full cycle of factory tests

“The United Aircraft Corporation has delivered a batch of new Su-57 multi-role fighters to the Russian Aerospace Forces. The aircraft underwent a full cycle of factory tests, were tested in various operating modes by pilots from the Russian Defense Ministry, and flew to their assigned airfield,” said UAC in a statement.

The company also highlighted that the latest production aircraft differ significantly from the Su-57s delivered during the early period of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. Over the intervening period, the aircraft has undergone what UAC described as substantial transformation and modernization.

The aircraft can be used around the clock, including in adverse weather conditions and challenging jamming environments. Its low observability allows it to destroy targets even against modern air defense systems.

In May, the company also tested the Su-57D, a two-seat multirole fifth-generation fighter. The aircraft was flown by Sergei Bogdan, Sukhoi Design Bureau chief pilot. The flight was successful and went in accordance with the flight mission requirements.

New threats, changes in weapons technology can influence production models

Modern combat aircraft are increasingly developed through an iterative process in which battlefield experience, new threats and changes in weapons technology can influence subsequent production models.

At the same time, many of the specific performance claims surrounding the aircraft come from Russian defense-industry and government sources. The latest delivery nevertheless demonstrates that Russia continues to invest in the Su-57 program and intends to expand the aircraft’s capabilities as part of the modernization of its Aerospace Forces.

‘Su-57 aircraft is the best aircraft in its class’

“The fifth-generation Su-57 aircraft is the best aircraft in its class. Unconditional fulfillment of the state defense procurement plan for the delivery of these and other operational-tactical aircraft is our top priority,” said UAC CEO Vadim Badekha.

“Our specialists, in cooperation with other Rostec companies, are constantly enhancing production processes to ensure the necessary pace of aircraft manufacturing.”

The aircraft has already proven itself in the special military operation. The new technical configuration will help broaden the range of missions for which this type of aircraft is deployed. The aircraft rolling off the production line nowadays differ from those from the early days of the special military operation. Over this period, the Su-57 has undergone major transformation.
