Uvs khural backs dismissal of Governor E. Nasanbat over diploma dispute

The Citizens’ Representative Khural of Uvs aimag, at an extraordinary session on whether to keep confidence in aimag Governor E. Nasanbat, backed by majority a proposal to dismiss him. According to UBN, Tug.mn and Arslan.mn, the proposal came from the Democratic Party group in the local khural, and the decision will be forwarded to the Prime Minister.

Under the law on administrative and territorial units, UBN explained, Prime Minister N. Uchral will hold a hearing; if he finds the khural’s decision lawful he will dismiss the governor, and if not, the resolution will be void.

The issue stems from documents made public on November 3 by G. Bayarsaikhan, head of the “Justice” association. Arslan.mn reported that a letter from the General Agency for Education said Nasanbat’s claimed higher-education and master’s degrees were not recorded in the national higher-education information system, and that one diploma number was registered to another person. By law an aimag governor must hold a higher-education degree. Nasanbat’s response to the accusations could not be found in published reports.

On X, users argued that a diploma can only be verified through the education ministry’s official records and university orders.
