AI appeared on 67% of S&P 500 earnings calls for Q2 2026, showing how the technology’s reach extends beyond a handful of companies.
Since the launch of ChatGPT, just eight AI stocks accounted for nearly half of the S&P 500’s market cap growth.
This graphic, created in partnership with Harbor Capital Advisors, measures market cap growth from November 30, 2022, to October 30, 2026. The data comes from S&P Global and TradingView.
Breaking Down the Market Cap Growth of AI Stocks
We focused on companies with a market capitalization of $1 trillion or more as of October 30, 2026. Each of these eight giants develops generative AI models, hardware, or both.
Combined, these AI stocks added $15.8 trillion to the S&P 500’s market cap. This accounts for 47% of the index’s total market value growth since ChatGPT launched.

Recent business results, like NVIDIA’s, give context to the significant growth of AI stocks. In its second financial quarter press release, NVIDIA reported a 117% year-over-year increase in data center revenue to $89.0 billion as AI infrastructure demand expanded.
AI’s Reach Extends Beyond the Giants
AI is also becoming prominent across the broader market. According to FactSet, 67% of S&P 500 earnings calls for Q2 2026 mentioned AI.
This association has coincided with stronger historical returns. From December 31, 2025, through September 17, 2026, companies mentioning AI on Q2 calls gained 15.7% on average. Those that did not mention AI gained 8.1%. It’s worth noting this does not establish that AI caused the gains or measure each company’s exposure to the technology.
Beyond the headlines, AI relies on businesses providing semiconductors, cloud computing, networking, power, cooling, software, and more. These connections create a broader ecosystem than the largest AI stocks alone.
Exploring the AI Ecosystem
For investors, AI giants behind products like the most used chatbots are only part of the story. Opportunities exist within the companies that are connected to each giant’s growth.
An AI ecosystem can include the chipmakers and cloud providers supplying computing power, the companies powering and cooling data centers, and the software businesses bringing a lab’s technology to customers.
Harbor Capital Advisors’ AI Labs Ecosystem ETFs focus on specific AI labs, such as Anthropic and OpenAI, and the companies closely linked to them. The ETFs offer a more targeted approach where you can invest in the ecosystems you believe are best poised to succeed.

Investors should carefully consider the investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses of a Harbor fund before investing. To obtain a summary prospectus or prospectus for this and other information, visit harborcapital.com or call 800-422-1050. Read it carefully before investing. All investments involve risk including the possible loss of principal. Unlike mutual funds, ETFs may trade at a premium or discount to their net asset value. The ETFs are new and have limited operating history to judge.
There is no guarantee the Fund will achieve its investment objective. Equity and foreign securities, particularly those in emerging markets, are subject to market volatility and political, regulatory, economic, and foreign currency risks that may cause the Fund’s value to decline. The Fund’s performance depends on the success, adoption, and growth of the company identified in the Fund’s name and companies most directly linked to that company’s artificial intelligence (“AI”) ecosystem. The Fund and such companies may be adversely affected by competition, technological disruption, cybersecurity incidents, supply chain constraints, regulation, reputational events, or shifts in market and investor sentiment. AI-related companies face rapid technological change and evolving legal and regulatory scrutiny that could negatively impact their business, profitability, and market value. The Fund relies on third-party data and quantitative models that may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or ineffective, and such models may not perform as expected under all market conditions. American Depository Receipts (ADRs), Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), and private company investments involve additional risks, including heightened volatility, limited liquidity, reduced transparency, foreign currency exposure, and uncertain operating histories or valuations. Because the Fund may invest a greater percentage of its assets in a single issuer or a limited number of issuers, it may be more susceptible to risks associated with a particular economic, political, or regulatory event than a more diversified portfolio.
These are ecosystem ETFs, not direct shares of private AI labs. The funds invest in publicly traded companies Harbor identifies as closely connected to each lab ecosystem. Publicly traded companies such as Meta or Alphabet may be eligible based on the portfolio methodology; private labs such as OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI are not directly owned.
The Funds are not affiliated with, connected to, or associated with the companies identified in their respective names and were not developed or created by, or sponsored, endorsed, or approved by, those companies.
