Karl Bushby completes 28-year walk from Chile to his home city of Hull
Bushby, who set off from Chile in 1998, walked about 50,000 km via the Bering Strait, Mongolia and China and reached his mother's home on November 2.

British adventurer Karl Bushby completed his 28-year walk on November 2, arriving in his home city of Hull, BBC, AP, Al Jazeera and Reuters reported.
The former paratrooper set off from Punta Arenas in southern Chile in November 1998, aiming to walk an unbroken path home. He set himself two rules: not to return to the UK until the journey was over, and not to use transport to advance. The trip, first expected to take 12 years, stretched to 28 because of visa and funding problems, including the loss of major sponsors in the 2008 financial crisis.
The route
Bushby covered about 50,000 km (31,000 miles). He crossed the Darién Gap between Colombia and Panama and the frozen Bering Strait from Alaska to Russia, then travelled through Mongolia and China towards Europe. He swam across the Caspian Sea and, last month, the English Channel. Along the way he was detained after entering Russia.
Homecoming
Hundreds of people greeted him in Hull city centre, where the Lord Mayor held a civic reception. He then walked the last few miles to the home of his mother, Angela, who joked "Where have you been?" when he arrived, the BBC reported. At a press conference Bushby said he was "hanging my boots up". A documentary about his journey is in production.
