On Monday morning, attention went to parliamentary caucus meetings, the Bank of Mongolia, a new reserve estimate at Erdenet, and a decision that matters to Mongolians living in South Korea. 1. Mongolia is not a party to the UN convention against mercenaries

A post by former Prime Minister S. Bayar was the most reposted of the period. He noted that Mongolia has not joined the UN International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries. He argued that it should, and that the special services should watch for anyone recruiting mercenaries for foreign wars. The UN General Assembly adopted the convention in 1989. According to the UN Treaty Collection, fewer than 40 states have ratified or acceded to it, and Mongolia is not among them.

2. Democratic Party caucus meets after 14 days and elects four deputy heads

The Democratic Party caucus in parliament had failed to reach a quorum for 14 days. It met today and elected MPs J. Bayarmaa, G. Khosbayar, R. Seddorj and Sh. Byambasüren as deputy heads, iSee.mn reported. The caucus's official account said J. Bayarmaa was backed with 91.6% of the vote.

Videos of a fire near Saruul district, in Bayanzürkh's 36th khoroo, spread widely on X in the morning. The capital's Emergency Management Department told iSee.mn that a 4-by-6 building next to the district had burned and that the fire was fully extinguished. Users warned that smoke from burning foam insulation is toxic and urged people to avoid breathing it.

5. MPP caucus discusses the Bank of Mongolia behind closed doors (new development)

The morning roundup covered the debate over the Bank of Mongolia's losses. Since then, there has been a new development. The ruling MPP caucus in parliament discussed information from the central bank in a closed session at its regular meeting today and was set to make a decision, iSee.mn reported. Economist Orgil-Erdene objected to closed-door talks on an issue that affects people's pockets. The central bank has itself disclosed a 6.9 trillion tögrög accumulated loss as of end-2025. It has also said it funded 8.2 trillion tögrög of mortgages with money it did not have and lost 1.6 trillion tögrög on swap deals.

In a video posted by Elch.mn, Bank of Mongolia Governor S. Narantsogt said lending rates cannot be forced down by administrative means.

6. Mongolians in Korea can now take the driving theory test in their own language

The 10th meeting of the Mongolia–South Korea intergovernmental joint committee took place in Seoul on October 30. It was co-chaired by B. Enkhbayar, head of Mongolia's Cabinet Secretariat, and Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jin-a. Bloomberg TV Mongolia reported that an updated feasibility study raised the geological reserve of the Erdenetiin-Ovoo copper-molybdenum deposit from 2.9 billion to 4.6 billion tonnes.
