Mongolians in South Korea can now take the driving theory test in their own language

Since October 29, Mongolians living and working in South Korea have been able to take the theory part of the Korean driving licence exam in Mongolian. Under a reciprocal arrangement, Korean citizens in Mongolia can also take the Mongolian theory test in Korean in Ulaanbaatar.

The change comes under an intergovernmental agreement on mutual recognition and exchange of driving licences. The two countries signed it during South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's state visit to Mongolia in July. UBN reported that 1,800 theory-test questions have been translated into Mongolian at Korea's 27 driving test centres.

The 10th meeting of the Mongolia–South Korea intergovernmental joint committee was held in Seoul on October 30. It was co-chaired by B. Enkhbayar, head of Mongolia's Cabinet Secretariat, and Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jin-a. Zogii.mn reported that the two sides agreed to formally sign their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement soon. They also agreed to step up cooperation in mining, rare metals, transport, infrastructure and urban development. In addition, they agreed to launch new "2+2" consular and immigration talks between their foreign ministries and immigration agencies. Vice-ministerial health consultations also resumed after eight years.

Enkhbayar said taking the test in their native language will help people understand the traffic rules better and improve their chances of passing.
