Advanced Energy has launched a 160-watt AC-DC power supply aimed at equipment operating in harsh military and industrial environments.
The DF150 delivers 27 VDC at 6 amps and maintains its rated output across temperatures ranging from -50.8°F to 140°F. The unit also carries MIL-STD certifications covering environmental durability and electromagnetic compatibility.
The product is the first member of Advanced Energy’s Defiant Future series. The company plans the line for applications spanning defense, telecommunications, transportation, industrial equipment, and energy systems.
DF150 targets harsh environments
The DF150 carries MIL-STD-810H certification for environmental conditions that can stress electronic hardware. Its testing covers shock, vibration, altitude changes, and temperature extremes.
An IP67 enclosure rating adds protection against dust and water. The rating also allows the unit to withstand temporary submersion under specified test conditions.
Advanced Energy offers two cooling configurations for the power supply. One uses conduction cooling through a base plate, while another uses convection cooling with a mounted heatsink.
The cooling choice can affect how engineers integrate the supply into a larger system. Conduction cooling can transfer heat into a platform’s structure, while convection relies on airflow around the hardware.
The design also supports different input cable configurations and case colors. These options give equipment manufacturers additional flexibility when adapting the supply to existing hardware layouts.
Military EMC tests add protection
The DF150 also addresses electromagnetic interference, which can become a significant issue inside densely packed electronic systems.
Advanced Energy says the supply meets MIL-STD-461G requirements across eight specified tests. They include RE102, CE102, CS101, CS114, CS115, CS116, CS118 and RS103.
The tests examine different forms of electromagnetic emissions and susceptibility. That matters when multiple electronic systems share the same platform and power environment.
The unit reaches up to 91% efficiency at full load. It also operates without a minimum load requirement. Leakage current reaches 275 microamps at 230 VAC, according to Advanced Energy. The company also lists the DF150 for operation across its full specified temperature range without performance degradation.
The 160-watt output places the supply below the power levels required by larger vehicle or platform systems. It could instead serve individual subsystems that need a dedicated power source within a larger architecture.
Standard unit targets defense
Advanced Energy says the DF150 combines military certifications with the shorter lead times associated with a standard commercial power supply.
Joe Voyles, the company’s vice president of Industrial Power Conversion Products, said the product aims to provide capabilities typically associated with custom-designed power supplies.
That distinction matters for equipment manufacturers that need certified power hardware without developing a supply specifically for one platform.
Custom power hardware can require additional engineering and validation when a system has demanding environmental requirements. A standardized unit can reduce some of that work if its specifications match the application.
The DF150’s electrical output also suits systems built around a 27-volt power architecture. Its environmental certifications and EMC testing provide engineers with defined performance parameters during system integration.
Advanced Energy has not disclosed pricing for the DF150. The company is positioning the new supply as the starting point for its Defiant Future product family.
