Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who lost Brazil's presidential runoff to incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has arrived in Florida with his family. CNN Brasil broadcast exclusive footage of his chartered jet landing at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport at 10:25 local time on October 28 (21:25 Ulaanbaatar time).

Via Argentina and Ecuador

According to Argentina's National Directorate of Migration, Bolsonaro crossed the Tancredo Neves International Bridge from Foz do Iguaçu into Puerto Iguazú at about 22:50 on October 27, with his wife Fernanda and their two daughters. The agency said all four presented valid travel documents and faced no legal impediment. Forty minutes later the group boarded a private flight to Guayaquil, Ecuador, where the plane refuelled before continuing to Florida.

The US position

Asked by reporters, President Donald Trump said he would "approve" the family's entry into the United States. Two US government officials told CNN that visas were being issued for the senator, his wife and two daughters. A source close to the senator told CNN Brasil he feared being arrested in Brazil.

The runoff was held on October 25 and won by Lula da Silva. Flávio Bolsonaro is the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
