Trump insults Norway over Nobel Peace Prize snub

US President Donald Trump lashed out at Norway in vulgar terms over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, Reuters, Newsweek, The Independent and MLive reported.

Speaking on October 25 at a rally at McMorran Place arena in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of next week's midterm elections, Trump turned to the Nobel Prize after saying, "I settled eight wars and I got two more coming." He said the prize "was gotten by a woman that nobody ever heard of," and added: "So I'm not in love with Norway. Frankly, Norway sucks." He then used a vulgar term for Norway that, according to Reuters, he has previously applied to Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. Linking recent unrest in France to immigration, Trump said he would welcome immigrants from some countries but not from Norway "because I didn't get the Nobel Prize ... So I don't want anybody from Norway."

Reuters reported there was no indication that the Trump administration was adopting a new official policy on Norwegian immigrants. Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a representative for the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside office hours.

The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded earlier this month to South African jurist and former UN human rights chief Navanethem "Navi" Pillay. Newsweek noted that the prize is chosen by the independent five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee, appointed by Norway's parliament, and not by the Norwegian government. At an October 9 rally in Syracuse, New York, Trump had called the decision "an indelible stain" on Norway.

Several Mongolian news outlets and users shared the story on X, some criticizing the president's language.
