Between 10:13 and 14:20 on Saturday, October 31, Mongolian users on X talked most about police removing car window tint, a feud among journalists, and the accident at Oyu Tolgoi's underground mine. Engagement was relatively low, as it was a weekend. Figures are as of 14:27.

1. Post about police removing a driver's windshield tint draws wide attention

The most-engaged post of the window came from @tsbat_IT. He wrote that he had driven for 10 years with a lightly tinted film on his front windshield, but police stopped him today and had it removed. He described the officer as calm and correct, and said the officer told him the checks were part of a drive "from 2026 against drug dealers and thieves". Replies advised that tint can be allowed with a doctor's note and shared similar experiences. We could not find an official police announcement of a new campaign, so this is the user's own account.

2. "1,000 Journalists Forum" and the "Khuushuurdalt" meet-up: the media feud moves to a new stage (new development)

On October 30 the Confederation of Mongolian Journalists held a "1,000 Journalists Forum" at the Children's Palace under the slogan "Free press – the guarantee of democracy", discussing press freedom, ethics and editorial accountability. Its president, L. Ninjjamts, said in the opening speech that journalism must not be a battleground for politicians or a tool for paid content. At the same time, @Uyanga_ts announced a second "Khuushuurdalt" meet-up for this Saturday and sharply criticised the media sector. @LutochirT wrote that he would "reveal new facts" at the event. ReelNews reported N. Önörtsetseg as saying an unnamed MPP politician stands behind G. Uyanga. That is a one-sided claim and has not been substantiated. Earlier stages of the dispute appeared in previous roundups. The forum and the second meet-up are new.

3. Oyu Tolgoi underground accident: working group formed, operations restarting in stages (new development)

At about 18:00 on October 29, a seismic event caused a rockfall at the +1300 level of the underground mine, affecting 15 workers. egov.mn reported this earlier, in Mongolian: https://www.egov.mn/mn/article/oyu-tolgoi-iin-gunii-uurhaid-chichirhiilel-bolzh-15-azhiltan-bertzhee. A working group from the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority and the mining inspectorate is now investigating the cause on site. According to the company, two employees are being treated in Ulaanbaatar for non-life-threatening injuries, and the other 13 have been discharged. On October 30 Rio Tinto said the rockfall was confined to a storage area next to the production zone, with no structural impact on the cave or its infrastructure. It said underground operations are being progressively restarted after safety reviews. @SolongooBayars1 criticised the company's CEO for being at the State Palace the day after the accident.

4. Suspension of Poland's Constitutional Tribunal leadership triggers a standoff

On October 30, Constitutional Tribunal judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska suspended the tribunal's president, Bogdan Święczkowski, and his deputy, Bartłomiej Sochański, for a month and said she was taking temporary charge. The tribunal's leadership called it a "coup d'état". Prime Minister Donald Tusk defended it as a step to restore the rule of law. 5. Pentagon's top military planner fired over alleged leaks

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on October 28 removed Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, director for strategy, plans and policy on the Joint Staff. The Pentagon accused him of unauthorised disclosure of classified information on Iran and Ukraine to journalists and said the case has been referred to the Justice Department (AP, The Washington Post, USA Today). Sylvia has not commented publicly. Mongolian posts described him as a "major general", but his current rank is lieutenant general.

6. Bear that entered Bayanzürkh district is shot (new development)

A call reporting a bear in the Khangal valley of Bayanzürkh district's 33rd khoroo was logged with the 102 police line at 14:35. Environmental inspectors, police and officers from special unit 809 then shot the animal to remove the danger, Zindaa.mn reported. Bears entering the capital's residential fringe, and the permission to shoot them, appeared in earlier roundups. This is a new case of a bear being shot within the capital.

7. Supreme Court upholds life sentence for Ts. Dagvadorj over killing of 16-year-old girl (new development)

At a Supreme Court review hearing on October 30, the life sentence given to Ts. Dagvadorj was upheld, as was the acquittal of E. Gan-Erdene. The acquittals of E. Nomin-Erdene and Kh. Enkhsaikhan were overturned and their cases sent back to the court of first instance (UBN.mn). The victim's mother, G. Otgontuya, said that "law and truth have prevailed". The first-instance ruling appeared in an earlier roundup.

8. Story of a Mongolian worker who saved a man dangling from a 14th floor in Korea comes to light

On November 14, 2025, in Dangjin, South Korea, a worker's safety harness snapped on an apartment exterior and left him dangling at the 14th floor. Mongolian mover Batbayar Zandanbat (Z. Batbayar), who was working across the street, ran over, got onto a resident's balcony and pulled the man up by hand, Yonhap reported almost a year later. Some posts gave the rescuer's name as "B. Zandanbat", but Yonhap and iSee.mn name him as Batbayar, son of Zandanbat. 9. Astana 2026: Kh. Bolortuya wins bronze at the freestyle wrestling world championships

At the world freestyle wrestling championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, Kh. Bolortuya of the Avragch sports club, an International Master of Sport, won bronze in the women's 59 kg category (GoGo.mn, MONTSAME). She has trained in freestyle wrestling for 16 years, and this is her fifth world championships.
