Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that lets software engineers run multiple coding agents at the same time, the company confirmed on Wednesday, November 4. Axios first reported the deal exclusively, and Conductor founder and chief executive Charlie Holtz wrote on the company's blog: “Conductor is joining Meta.” Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to provide further details. Financial terms were not disclosed.

What Conductor built

Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its core product in July 2025. The platform lets developers split a software project into separate workspaces and run coding agents from major labs — including Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex — in parallel. TechCrunch reported that Conductor does not build those agents itself; it orchestrates models from other labs. Holtz and chief technology officer Jackson de Campos co-founded the company.

Sources told Axios that Conductor's pace of product development and focus on the developer experience are expected to help Meta build its next generation of AI coding products. On X, Holtz said he was looking forward to working with Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs.

What happens to users

Holtz said Conductor's core features will keep working until early next year, with one exception: the cloud service, Conductor Cloud. New sign-ups stopped on November 4. Cloud workspaces become read-only on November 13 and shut down on November 20, after which the company will begin deleting cloud user data. Active subscribers will receive a refund. The local Mac app will continue to receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, Conductor said. Holtz teased “big, crazy plans for the next interface” and said the company hopes to have something new for users early next year.

The wider race for coding tools

Meta launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August. The company has also said its recently launched Muse agents have surpassed 10 million users. Axios noted that the Conductor deal was announced the same day OpenAI told the outlet it planned to acquire another developer-tools startup, Pierre Computer. Axios framed the purchases as part of a broader race among AI labs to own the tools developers use, as coding has become a central path for AI adoption and enterprise spending.
