Tavantolgoi–Gashuunsukhait heavy-haul road fully opens; Development Bank provides $49.8 million
Mongolia’s Development Bank said the 240 km heavy-haul road from the Tavantolgoi deposits to Gashuunsukhait was fully opened today and that it provided $49.8 million for construction and paving.

The Development Bank of Mongolia said the 240 km heavy-haul road from the Tavantolgoi deposits in Tsogttsetsii soum, Umnugovi aimag, to the Gashuunsukhait border crossing was fully opened today (16 October 2026).
Transport Minister B. Delgersaikhan, ministry officials, Development Bank First Deputy CEO A. Enkhjin, contractor “Tal Nutgiin Hugjliin Zam” LLC and truckers attended the opening, the bank said.
The bank reported providing $49.8 million toward completing construction and asphalt paving of the roughly MNT 1 trillion project. The road is described as 14.5 metres wide with a 7.5-metre carriageway, built for mining freight and loads of up to 200 tonnes.
Loaded trucks will use the new road toward Gashuunsukhait while the two-lane road opened in 2011 will serve the reverse direction, creating a four-lane heavy-haul corridor, officials said. Gashuunsukhait is a major export gate for Mongolian coal and copper concentrate.
