Apple on Oct. 26 expanded Siri AI, its rebuilt AI-powered assistant, to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish with the 27.2 software updates for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and visionOS. The assistant had previously been available only in English.

According to Apple, Siri AI is a completely reimagined version of Siri built on Apple Intelligence. It draws on personal context across a user's messages, emails and photos, can take more systemwide app actions such as drafting an email from scratch or editing and sharing a set of photos, understands what is on screen, and can use broad world knowledge to answer questions on virtually any topic.

Apple said language support will keep expanding, with Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese coming by the end of the year.

There are notable limits. Siri AI remains in beta and requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device. It is still unavailable in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, where Apple says it is "working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward," and it is not available to users under 13. Features that rely on server-side models, including Siri AI and Image Playground, are subject to daily usage limits, and Apple said expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future.

The addition of Japanese and Korean gives Apple's AI assistant a foothold in major Asia-Pacific markets as competition with Google, OpenAI and Meta for personal AI assistants intensifies.
