Euro-92 petrol ordered from China has gone on sale at Ulaanbaatar filling stations for 5,600 tugriks a litre.

What officials say

An official source told UBN.mn that "Euro-92 petrol ordered from China has started arriving. It is being sold on market principles at 5,600 tugriks a litre." The official said the price of regular AI-92, the grade most drivers use, will not rise.

Diversifying supply

According to Khumuun.mn, Mongolia depends heavily on Russia for fuel. Repairs and logistics problems there recently pushed the price of AI-92 up to 3,600 tugriks and caused shortages. The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources has been in talks with China, South Korea and Kazakhstan to diversify imports. Mongolia has asked China to supply 71,000 tonnes of petroleum products a month, and the Euro-92 now on sale is the first batch. A further 20,000 tonnes is provisionally agreed for next month.

The government has removed customs duty on petrol and diesel entering through major border ports, including Zamyn-Uud, Bulgan and Shiveekhuren. The ministry says stocks of Euro-95 are sufficient and that it is working to hold a stable 30-day strategic reserve.

Reaction on X

Users on X criticised the higher price of Euro-92 and shared photos of price boards at filling stations. Earlier prices quoted by some users have not been officially confirmed.
