A post by historian and commentator Baabar on the Manchu era reached the widest audience, while the main news item was the death of statesman and Colonel General S. Luvsangombo. 1. Colonel General S. Luvsangombo dies

Sonomyn Luvsangombo, a statesman, Colonel General and Honoured Builder of Mongolia, died on 6 November, GoGo.mn and Sonin.mn reported. He was born in 1924 in Khatanbulag soum, Dornogovi aimag; GoGo.mn reported his age as 102 by the Mongolian count.

According to the biography published by Sonin.mn, Luvsangombo was conscripted in 1944 and trained as a military and civil engineer in the Soviet Union. He chaired the executive committee of the Ulaanbaatar City People’s Deputies’ Khural, the post equivalent to mayor, in 1971–1972. He served as deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Mongolian People’s Republic in 1972–1982 and 1984–1989, and as Minister of Public Security in 1982–1984, and held the rank of Colonel General. 2. Baabar explains the Manchu era in the preface to a revised edition of his history

Historian and commentator Baabar shared on X the preface to the revised seventh edition of his work “Mongolian History”, published on his website. He wrote that the more than 200-year “Manchu period” of Mongolian history has been muddled by ideologically driven interpretations from Chinese and Soviet historians. He argued that the alliance between the Manchu and Mongol peoples created the Qing empire, and that Inner and Outer Mongolia were vassal states in that relationship. In the preface Baabar notes that the collapse of the communist system opened up archival records. 3. Post asks why bright young Mongolians choose party politics over business

A text attributed to an unnamed “Mongolian software engineer at Google” was shared by @jirgeepage and other users. It says that in the United States the brightest young people go into business, whereas in Mongolia they compete to become officials, advisers and ministers. The text explains this by the small size of the market, the concentration of big money in the state, and a distorted balance of risk and reward. It contrasts entrepreneurs, who carry high-interest loans, taxes and currency risk themselves, with officials who write new “permits” and “regulations” that stifle the market. 4. Question of bringing Rosneft petrol stations to Mongolia raised again

As fuel shortages continue, discussion on X about letting Russia’s Rosneft open petrol stations in Mongolia went on, with one user asking whether the matter had been discussed at government level. iSee.mn reported on 7 November that Russian Ambassador Alexey Evsikov said Russian fuel retailers could enter the Mongolian market and run stations from Ulaanbaatar and Darkhan to the Russian border, and from Khovd towards Altai. The outlet noted that AI-generated posts demanding Rosneft’s entry were circulating widely on social media. It warned that such a move could push domestic companies out of the market and deepen dependence on a single country, and recalled that Russia proposed opening 100 stations in Mongolia in 2008. No official government decision on the matter was found.

5. Boxer E. Tsendbaatar to fight Muhammad Yakubov this week

Boxing coach N. Shinebayar shared a post about the next bout of unbeaten Mongolian professional E. Tsendbaatar, a State Honoured Athlete. According to Eguur.mn and iSee.mn, Tsendbaatar will face Tajikistan’s Muhammad Yakubov on 13 November in Texas, at WBC super featherweight (130 lb). Sportnews.kz reported that the 10-round bout in El Paso is the co-main event of a ProBoxTV card, with Yakubov ranked seventh and Tsendbaatar tenth by the WBC. Tsendbaatar has won all 15 of his professional fights, while Yakubov has 23 wins and one loss. The bout was first scheduled for April but was postponed.
